Irvine, in Orange County, publishes an official map and list of its homeowners associations, and the list names the management company behind each one. The City's Irvine Map Inquiry tool narrows it down further: enter a parcel and it returns the HOA name. Before you book movers in Irvine, look your address up there, because that management company is who answers questions about move hours, elevator bookings and insurance certificates.
A lot of Irvine condo communities answer to two associations at once. According to the City, the master HOA usually maintains the larger common areas, such as median landscaping and private parks, while the sub-HOA covers the smaller landscaped areas inside a cluster and the exteriors of attached buildings. The building entry and the planted strips along your carry path are usually sub-HOA ground, so ask both associations for their move rules.
Apartments work differently. The City notes that Irvine apartment communities are typically owned and run by a single company and sit outside any HOA, which leaves the property manager in charge of loading areas and move times. Our apartment moving crews follow those rules at both addresses, padding hallway corners and laying floor runners from the unit door to the truck.
Some single-family streets have no association at all. The City names portions of Northwood, Lower Peters Canyon and El Camino Real, although many homes there still carry deed restrictions (CC&Rs) on things like exterior paint and room additions. On those streets, the City's own parking rules decide where the truck can stand.
The Irvine Police Department is blunt about it: under the Irvine Municipal Code, vehicles wider than 84 inches can't park on a public roadway, and commercial vehicles belong on private property or in a storage lot. A full-size moving truck is wider than that. The exception sits in the City Council regulation itself, as quoted by the Woodbridge Village Association: an oversized vehicle may stop on a public street while it's actively loading or unloading.
That turns the curb into a work zone rather than a parking space, and the rule binds every Irvine moving company the same way. The truck can't be left out front the evening before to hold a spot, and it shouldn't linger once the last box is in. On move day the crew pulls up as close to your door as the street allows, loads and goes, so keep that stretch free of your own cars that morning.
Two more city rules tend to come up. Some Irvine residential areas require a permit to park on the public street at all. The police department handles temporary permits, so if friends or family will park on your block, check the signs a few days ahead. Detached trailers are banned from city streets and get cited, so a rented trailer for the leftovers has to stay hitched or sit in a driveway.
Woodbridge. The village is built around two association lakes, with beach clubs on North Lake and South Lake, and its housing runs from detached homes to condos and townhomes. Even for something as small as a garage sale, the Woodbridge Village Association tells residents of sub-associations to check that second set of rules. It also rations parking for RVs, trailers, work vehicles and other oversized vehicles: at most 24 overnight permits a year, never on consecutive nights, and six 3-day permits spaced at least 30 days apart. The moving truck gets the curb while it works; a trailer or anything else oversized left behind runs into those limits.
Great Park Neighborhoods. The development runs along the edge of the Great Park, the former Marine Corps Air Station El Toro, and still lists more than 15 new-home collections plus quick move-in homes. With roughly 300 more acres of the park itself in progress, per the City, a move here often means a brand-new house, untouched floors and construction traffic on the way in. Check the City's Road Construction Map the week of the move; on the day, the crew puts down floor protection and pads door frames before the first piece crosses the threshold. The neighborhoods' own HOA, separate from the park's facilities, has move rules of its own.
Irvine Business Complex. The IBC mixes commercial, industrial and residential properties, and the City lists its high-rise condominium communities among Irvine's HOAs. In a tower the elevator sets the pace: book it with the building, send the COI wording early, and have boxes sealed before the reserved window opens. Every SOS crew leaves from our single base on Jillson Street in Los Angeles. Irvine is about 32.6 miles away down I-5, around 40 minutes without traffic. Weekday rush hours on I-5 through Santa Ana and Tustin can stretch that considerably, which is why the start time matters as much as the date.
The last few exits run through a construction zone. OCTA and Caltrans are widening I-5 between SR-55 in Tustin and I-405 in Irvine, adding a general-purpose lane in each direction plus auxiliary lanes and ramp changes at select interchanges, with work scheduled into 2029. Until then, expect lane shifts on exactly the stretch an Irvine-bound truck uses.
All of it fits inside the 8AM to 6PM workday, seven days a week. The minimum here is 3 or 4 hours, depending on the address: the 4-hour minimum applies beyond 30 miles from our base, and Irvine sits close to that line. As on our rates page, double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles, and same-day moves are possible when a crew is free.
The same I-5 widening continues north into Tustin, so moves to and from Tustin share Irvine's work zone. On the way down from Los Angeles the truck also crosses Santa Ana, which makes a pickup there an easy first stop on an Irvine-bound move; see moving in Santa Ana for that city's side of the job.
Costa Mesa lies west of Irvine, and I-405 runs through both. A move between the two can use the 405 and leave the I-5 construction out of the day entirely, so Costa Mesa moves from Irvine often ride a different freeway than the trip down from Los Angeles.
