Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.
A safe relocation is our goal, so we’ll provide you with a detailed list of items that are prohibited to transport. It includes perishables, hazardous materials, firearms, batteries, etc. We also don’t recommend packing your personal and irreplaceable items, including family heirlooms, family photos, jewelry, documents, etc. Carry them with you during the move.
We accept cash, all major debit and credit cards, and certified checks. We don’t accept personal checks. There will not apply any transaction fee on card transactions.
Yes, we’ll contact you prior to delivery. We’ll deliver your belongings within the given moving arrival window. In case the window is no longer possible, we’ll also contact you in advance and set another delivery time.
Alhambra, the Los Angeles County city at the west end of the San Gabriel Valley, runs on old buildings. Census Bureau survey figures for 2020–2024 date nearly a quarter of its homes to 1939 or earlier, and the median home was built in 1960. A house that age gets the full treatment from our crew: runners over the floors, pads on door jambs and banisters, and bulky pieces taken apart before they meet a doorway cut for another era's furniture.
The old tracts show it plainly. Emery Park, on the western edge, opened in the 1920s with Spanish Colonial Revival, Pueblo Revival and Storybook cottages, while the Bean Tract at the northeastern tip, once orchard land owned by Jacob Bean, runs from Colonial Revival to Tudor Revival homes of the 1930s and '40s. The Midwick Tract, named for the old Midwick Country Club, and the post-war Airport Tract, built on the site of the original Alhambra Airport, bring in the plainer Minimal Traditional houses of the 1940s and after. Tell us the tract and the year the house was built when you call; that tells us how much padding, disassembly and time to plan for.
Most Alhambra households rent, about 59 percent, and much of the rental stock is low-rise: roughly a third of the city's housing units sit in buildings of two to 19 units, and only about one in eight in a building of 20 or more. That means more stair carries than elevator rides. For a second- or third-floor walk-up, consider booking three movers instead of two; with our apartment movers that runs $159 cash or $169 card per hour, Monday through Thursday.
Curb rules decide more of the day for movers in Alhambra than the furniture does. Street sweeping is enforced on posted streets on weekdays from 8 to 11:30 AM and again from noon to 3 PM, right in the middle of a moving day. Check the sign on your block before move day and tell us the window; we place the truck around it rather than gamble on the sweeper running late.
One neighborhood adds a second layer. In the Midwick Park/Alhambra Hills Tract preferred parking district, vehicles without a district permit get one hour on weekdays between 7 AM and 7 PM, and each household holds a single visitor hanger. Saturday and Sunday fall outside those hours but bill at the weekend rate, $135 cash or $145 card per hour for two movers against $119 or $129 Monday through Thursday, and Friday gets neither break. On a weekday, we settle the parking plan with you before the truck rolls.
The city-wide rule to know is the overnight one: parking on every public street in Alhambra is restricted from 2 to 6 AM, seven days a week, without a permit or a disabled placard. If your cars will live on the street at the new address, set up the city's annual virtual permit before the first night. Temporary nightly permits are not issued for trailers or for vehicles over 6,000 pounds, 8 feet tall or 20 feet long, so a rental box truck can't get one to sit at the curb until morning.
Clearing out a garage or attic first? The city's temporary trash bins come through Republic Services with at least 24 hours' notice and weekday delivery only, and a bin set on the street needs a street encroachment permit from Public Works. Book it a few days ahead so the bin is gone, or at least out of the truck's way, by moving day. If boxing up the house is the part you'd rather hand off, our packing service takes that on.
Condo and HOA buildings set their own terms: reserving the elevator and the move window is on the resident, and if management asks for a certificate of insurance, we provide one for $50. Downtown, the city's lots and parking structures cap stays at two to four hours, which suits a helper's car but not a full day. On Sundays the certified farmers market sets up at 100 South Second Street from 8:30 AM to 1 PM, so a Sunday move near there gets a parking plan that allows for it.
| Area or housing type in Alhambra | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Emery Park, Bean Tract and other 1920s–1940s houses | Floor runners, jamb and banister pads, legs and headboards off before carrying; build that time into the estimate |
| Midwick Park/Alhambra Hills Tract permit district | One hour for vehicles without a district permit, 7 AM to 7 PM on weekdays; one visitor hanger per household; weekends fall outside the restriction |
| Walk-up buildings of two to 19 units | Stairs instead of an elevator; give us the floor and the flight count, and weigh a three-mover crew |
| Downtown near Second Street | City lots and structures cap stays at two to four hours; farmers market on Sundays, 8:30 AM to 1 PM, at 100 South Second Street |
| Any street in the city | Posted weekday sweeping windows; no parking from 2 to 6 AM without a permit; a trash bin on the street needs an encroachment permit |
Every crew handling moving services in Alhambra leaves from our only base, 5530 Jillson Street in Los Angeles, and takes I-710 north: about 8.7 miles and around 14 minutes without traffic. The 710 ends at Valley Boulevard in the far southwest of the city, where its stub north of the I-10 runs out, so the last leg to any Alhambra address is city streets and signals. Weekday rush hours can slow the 710 and its I-10 interchange, and we set the start time with that in mind inside the 8AM – 6PM window we work, Monday through Sunday.
Alhambra sits well inside 30 miles of the base, so the 3-hour minimum applies, with overtime after 8 hours. Under our local moving rates, double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles. A same-day move is possible when a crew is free, so call 909-443-0004 and ask.
San Gabriel starts at Alhambra's eastern line, and Valley Boulevard runs through both cities, so a move between them can stay on one boulevard for most of the trip; our San Gabriel moving page covers that side. Monterey Park lies directly south, and Atlantic Boulevard and Garfield Avenue, two of the streets that feed Alhambra's I-10 interchanges, keep going into it; see moving in Monterey Park for the view from there.
Pasadena is the neighbor that doesn't touch Alhambra. The 710 was meant to link the two, but Metro's board eliminated the extension, so a trip to or from Pasadena homes and apartments crosses South Pasadena or San Marino on surface streets. Budget for city driving door to door; there is no direct freeway between them.
