Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.
A safe relocation is our goal, so we’ll provide you with a detailed list of items that are prohibited to transport. It includes perishables, hazardous materials, firearms, batteries, etc. We also don’t recommend packing your personal and irreplaceable items, including family heirlooms, family photos, jewelry, documents, etc. Carry them with you during the move.
We accept cash, all major debit and credit cards, and certified checks. We don’t accept personal checks. There will not apply any transaction fee on card transactions.
Yes, we’ll contact you prior to delivery. We’ll deliver your belongings within the given moving arrival window. In case the window is no longer possible, we’ll also contact you in advance and set another delivery time.
Los Feliz is the Los Angeles neighborhood that climbs from Hollywood Boulevard and Fountain Avenue to the edge of Griffith Park, with the Los Angeles River along its east side. The city's SurveyLA report on the Hollywood plan area names it among the hillside areas that saw heavy home building in the 1920s, and whole blocks from that decade are now mapped as historic districts. For movers in Los Feliz, the work starts with cover: runners on the floors, pads on the banisters and wrap on the door frames before the first dresser leaves a room.
South of Los Feliz Boulevard, around Kenmore and Alexandria Avenues, SurveyLA mapped the Los Feliz Square Multi-Family Residential Historic District, built up between 1922 and 1951, and a second multi-family district follows Los Feliz Boulevard itself. Buildings in districts like these are duplexes, triplexes, courtyard apartments and apartment houses, and the survey found apartment towers uncommon across the plan area. So expect a walk-up: along a shared courtyard path, through a gate and down outside stairs. Our apartment movers pad the gate and the stair rails and keep the path clear for the neighbors.
North of the boulevard the ground rises. The Los Feliz Heights Residential Historic District covers Period Revival houses on Nottingham and Cromwell Avenues and the western stretch of Los Feliz Boulevard, built between the mid-1920s and the early 1940s and sold on their closeness to the film studios. SurveyLA also records the hillside fixtures that come with streets like these, from retaining walls to public stairways. We ask for photos of the path from curb to front door, because a long run of steps decides whether the job needs two movers or three.
On Nottingham or Cromwell, where a house can sit a long flight of steps above the street, we often suggest the third mover: three movers with a truck run $159 cash or $169 card per hour Monday through Thursday, and $175 or $185 Friday through Sunday. A piano in one of these houses goes only with the four-mover crew and the $200 piano charge; see piano movers.
Inside the City of Los Angeles, temporary no-parking signs go through LADOT, and the department's Special Traffic Control Division takes the requests and questions about them. Start that request once the date is firm. In the courtyard blocks south of the boulevard, one frontage can serve an entire building, and a reserved stretch of curb in front of the entrance is what keeps the carry short.
The hill streets carry a fire rule as well. The Eastsider's coverage of LAFD Red Flag alerts links maps of Red Flag streets in Los Feliz, and on a declared Red Flag day any vehicle left on a block posted with "Red Flag Days" signs gets towed. LAFD alerts have switched the restriction on at 8 a.m., the same hour the SOS day starts. On a hillside job we check the LAFD alert that morning, and if it is on, the truck parks on an unposted street and the crew carries from there.
Where a Los Feliz building does have an elevator or a management office, it sets its own move-day terms. Get the elevator reservation, the permitted hours and the exact certificate-of-insurance wording in writing; SOS issues the COI for $50 once we have that wording. Before the day, we ask for four things:
Vermont Avenue north of Los Feliz Boulevard is the road into Griffith Park, and it carries the Observatory crowd. Griffith Observatory names evenings, weekends, summer, spring break and holidays as its peak times, warns that roads may close when traffic backs up, and stays closed on Mondays. For a house on the streets off upper Vermont, a Monday-to-Thursday date keeps the truck out of that traffic and lands on the weekday rate: $119 cash or $129 card per hour for two movers and a truck, against $135 or $145 from Friday to Sunday.
Laughlin Park, the gated enclave where the Los Feliz Improvement Association counts 77 lots, runs on gate clearance. A truck the gate isn't expecting waits outside while the crew makes calls, so clear the SOS truck before the move date and tell us whose name the entry is under.
Franklin Hills, on the Silver Lake side of Los Feliz, is stair country. Its public stairways include Prospect Walk, at Franklin and Prospect Avenues, which SurveyLA dates to around 1925. If your door is closer to a stairway or a side street than to the street in your address, tell us; the truck goes wherever the carry is shortest.
Los Feliz Boulevard itself is one of the main east-west corridors SurveyLA names for the Hollywood plan area, and it is the street the truck arrives on from I-5. With a multi-family district along it, some moves start right on the boulevard, where a truck standing in a travel lane is not an option. We settle the spot in advance, at the boulevard curb where the signs allow it or on the nearest side street, and bring dollies for the longer push.
| Part of Los Feliz | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Courtyard buildings around Kenmore and Alexandria Avenues | Walk-up carries on shared paths; reserved curb at the entrance; pads on gates and stair rails |
| Apartments on Los Feliz Boulevard | A main east-west corridor: truck spot agreed in advance, never in a travel lane |
| Los Feliz Heights, around Nottingham and Cromwell Avenues | Steps and retaining walls between curb and door; Red Flag signs on posted streets |
| Laughlin Park | Gate clearance for the truck before the move date |
| Franklin Hills | Public stairways between streets; the truck parks where the carry is shortest |
| Streets off upper Vermont Avenue | Observatory traffic on weekends and holidays; a Monday-to-Thursday date |
Our moving services in Los Feliz run from the single SOS base at 5530 Jillson Street, about 13.7 miles away and around 20 minutes without traffic: north on I-5 to the Los Feliz Boulevard ramps, then west along the boulevard into the neighborhood. With traffic it is a different drive. The I-5 past downtown slows through the weekday commute, mornings and late afternoons, so the same trip can take noticeably longer at 8AM or 5PM than at midday.
Crews work Monday through Sunday, 8AM – 6PM, and can take a same-day job only when a crew is free. Los Feliz sits well inside 30 miles of the base, so the minimum is 3 hours, and under the SOS rate sheet double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles. A short hop, say from a Kenmore Avenue courtyard to a house above the boulevard, is still an ordinary local move billed by the hour.
Silver Lake begins at Hyperion Avenue and Griffith Park Boulevard, the southeast edge of Los Feliz on the LA Times Mapping L.A. map. The Eastsider's list of Red Flag street maps includes its hills as well, so the morning LAFD check carries straight over to moving in Silver Lake.
Hollywoodland, farther west up Beachwood Canyon, is the tract SurveyLA pairs with Los Feliz Heights: 1920s Period Revival houses sold on their closeness to the studios, with granite stairways of its own. The same stairs-first planning goes into moves in Hollywoodland.
Hollywood starts across Western Avenue and Fern Dell Drive, and Franklin Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard run from one neighborhood straight into the other. A Los Feliz-to-Hollywood move can be a short surface-street run along one of them; see Hollywood movers for that side of the line.
