Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.
A safe relocation is our goal, so we’ll provide you with a detailed list of items that are prohibited to transport. It includes perishables, hazardous materials, firearms, batteries, etc. We also don’t recommend packing your personal and irreplaceable items, including family heirlooms, family photos, jewelry, documents, etc. Carry them with you during the move.
We accept cash, all major debit and credit cards, and certified checks. We don’t accept personal checks. There will not apply any transaction fee on card transactions.

Canoga Park is a Los Angeles neighborhood on the flat floor of the west San Fernando Valley, bounded roughly by Roscoe Boulevard, De Soto Avenue, Victory Boulevard and Shoup Avenue, according to the city's historic resources survey. It began as the town of Owensmouth, which the Pacific Electric line reached by 1912. The terrain is easy on a truck. What sets the length of a move here is the building: how many stairs, whose elevator, and how much curb is free.
Most households on the move here rent. Census estimates for 2020–2024 count about 78% of occupied homes in the 91303 ZIP code as rented, and roughly one housing unit in three there sits in a building with 50 or more apartments. The Times' Mapping L.A. project rates the neighborhood's density among the highest in Los Angeles County. On moving day that means shared stairwells, long corridors and a leasing office that decides where the truck may stand.
In the big complexes our apartment movers protect the route before anything moves: pads on stair rails and door frames, runners on corridor floors, beds and tables taken apart upstairs so they clear the landings. When you compare quotes from any Canoga Park moving company, ask two things: who protects the shared stairwell, and who books the elevator.
Before booking moving services in Canoga Park, sort out the curb. The neighborhood sits inside the City of Los Angeles, so street rules come from LADOT rather than a local city hall, and requests for temporary no-parking signs go to LADOT's Special Traffic Control Division, per the department's FAQ. On a packed apartment block those signs are the dependable way to hold enough curb for a truck plus room to load, so contact the division well ahead of the date.
Permit-parking zones are less of a problem than they look. LADOT's FAQ says commercial vehicles parked in a preferential parking district do not need a district permit while they are there for commercial activity, which covers a moving truck working your address. Red curbs and posted sweeping hours are another matter, and the parking plan has to route around them.
Apartment communities and condo associations add their own layer: elevator bookings, set move-in hours, sometimes a deposit and a certificate of insurance. If management wants a COI naming the owner or association, SOS issues one for $50. Forward us the building's exact wording a few days ahead so the certificate matches it on the first try.
The old Owensmouth business district still anchors the neighborhood around Sherman Way and Owensmouth Avenue, where the city survey found commercial buildings from the 1910s and '20s. The streetscape plan for downtown Canoga Park sets angled parking on Owensmouth Avenue between Gault and Wyandotte streets, and an angled stall will not hold a moving truck. For an address on those blocks, the plan is a parallel curb around the corner and a longer dolly run.
Memorial Day is the date to avoid. The Canoga Park parade has filled Sherman Way for more than three decades, with the 34th edition in May 2026, and the city's event calendar listed the 2025 parade from 10am to 2:30pm. A holiday move near Old Town should load outside that window.
The Warner Center 2035 plan area runs from the Los Angeles River south to the Ventura Freeway, between De Soto Avenue and Topanga Canyon Boulevard. Its northern slice, between the river and Victory, falls inside Canoga Park's traditional line; the river itself begins nearby, where Bell Creek and Calabasas Creek meet at Owensmouth Avenue and Vanowen Street. City Planning's second five-year status report counted 15 significant projects built and six under construction between December 2018 and December 2023.
New construction means elevators, gated garages and loading areas that management books in advance. Get the elevator, the entrance and the time confirmed in writing before the move date is set. If your move-out and the new lease don't line up, storage between leases can hold the load for the gap.
Away from Sherman Way and Topanga Canyon Boulevard, the survey dates most of the area to the 1950s and '60s, when Rocketdyne opened its Canoga Avenue campus in 1955 and ranch-house tracts filled the flats on regular, gridded lots. These are one-story homes with attached garages and driveways. No stairs, but rambling floor plans stretch the carry from back bedrooms, and a garage used as a workshop for decades packs slowly; packing services can take that room off your list.
| Area or home type in Canoga Park | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Old Town blocks on Sherman Way and Owensmouth Avenue | Angled stalls on Owensmouth between Gault and Wyandotte won't take the truck; line up a parallel curb nearby, and stay off Sherman Way during the Memorial Day parade. |
| Large apartment complexes in ZIP 91303 | Book the elevator or loading area with management, confirm permitted hours, and note the stairs and corridor length to your door. |
| Warner Center buildings between the river and Victory Boulevard | Elevator reservation, garage or dock entrance, and a COI ($50 from SOS) if management asks for one. |
| Ranch houses off the commercial boulevards | One story with an attached garage: keep the driveway clear for loading and start on the garage early. |
Every SOS crew starts from one base, 5530 Jillson Street in Los Angeles. The run to Canoga Park goes up I-5, west on SR-134, then onto US-101 across the Valley: about 35.3 miles, around 45 minutes without traffic. The 5 and the 101 both clog in the commute peaks, so a run at rush hour takes noticeably longer than that baseline.
That distance sets the terms. The minimum here is 4 hours, not 3, because Canoga Park is more than 30 miles from the base, and as the rates page puts it, double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles. Crews work Monday through Sunday, 8AM to 6PM, and a same-day move is possible when a crew is free; call 909-443-0004 early in the day to check.
Summer heat is the other scheduling factor. The official weather station at Pierce College, a short drive away in Woodland Hills, recorded 121 degrees on September 6, 2020, the highest official reading ever recorded in Los Angeles County, according to the National Weather Service. For a July-to-September move, the 8AM start is the one to book, and anything that melts or wilts rides in your car, not in the truck box.
Canoga Park shares Warner Center with Woodland Hills. South of the Ventura Freeway the streets climb into the Santa Monica Mountains foothills, where lots grow larger and less regular, and a Woodland Hills move often trades a flat driveway for a sloped one. That changes the carry more than the distance does.
East of De Soto Avenue lies Winnetka, and past it Reseda. Sherman Way, the old Owensmouth commercial strip, runs through all three, so moves to Reseda can stay on one boulevard nearly the whole way.
North, Canoga Avenue is the direct line for moving to Chatsworth. Metro's G Line busway runs beside it on a separate right-of-way, with stations at Sherman Way, Roscoe and Nordhoff, and ends at the Chatsworth Metrolink station. A move between the two neighborhoods doesn't need a freeway at all.
