Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.

Hiring movers in Monrovia, the San Gabriel Valley city at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains in Los Angeles County, means planning for two different kinds of homes. Single-family detached houses make up 56.2 percent of the city's units, and buildings with five or more apartments another 23.9 percent, according to the housing data the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) prepared for the city's Housing Element. The same report found renters in 53.2 percent of households, so lease end dates, not escrow, set the calendar for a large share of local moves. If a lease runs out before the next place is ready, our storage service can hold the furniture in between.
The houses skew old. About half of Monrovia's homes were built before 1960, and the single largest group, 19.6 percent, dates from 1939 or earlier, while across the SCAG region the peak building decade was the 1970s. Older floor plans mean narrow interior doors, original hardwood and tight turns into bedrooms, so the crew pads doorframes, lays runners over the floors and takes beds and tables apart before they reach the hallway.
Some of the oldest houses are protected. The city adopted its historic preservation ordinance in 1995, and by mid-2017 it counted more than 140 designated landmarks. Craftsman is the dominant style here, with broad front porches, often on stone, clinker-brick or stucco piers, and those piers get padded before the first dresser crosses the porch. Our packing crews can wrap the china and glassware in the same visit, so nothing fragile rides loose.
To hold curb space in Monrovia, go through Public Works. Homeowners and tenants can apply for a no-fee encroachment permit that covers a moving truck as well as a dumpster or a PODS, UNITS or U-Pack container. The permit is good for 14 days and must be posted at least 48 hours before the truck arrives, so neighbors know which spaces will be taken. If you pull one, send us the spaces it covers, and the driver will park in them.
Street sweeping is enforced, and a city parking permit does not excuse a driver from the other rules on the block. Before moving day we check the posted sweeping day for your street; if it matches the move date, the truck parks on the side that is not being swept.
The city also issues annual Overnight and Restricted Times permits, a hang tag for the rear-view mirror, to residents who lack enough off-street parking for their registered cars. If the new place has fewer spaces than your household has cars, get that permit from the police department before your first night in the new home.
Old Town Monrovia runs along Myrtle Avenue, and its parking is free: on-street spaces, public lots on Colorado Boulevard and on Lime and Lemon avenues, and the Paragon garage, all under posted signs the city asks drivers to follow. For an office or shop move there, we plan the truck's stop from those signs, and our commercial moving crews keep the sidewalk clear for the storefronts next door.
Two recurring events close Old Town streets. The Monrovia Street Fair & Market takes over a stretch of Myrtle Avenue every Friday from 5 PM, and each May the Monrovia Days parade shuts Myrtle from Huntington Drive to Foothill Boulevard, with carnival setup keeping several Old Town streets closed for days. Book a Friday load-out near Myrtle for the morning, and check the festival dates before picking a May move date.
Around the A Line's Monrovia Station, the city planned the Station Square Transit Village with the Urban Land Institute years before light rail arrived in 2016. The buildings are large: MODA was approved at 261 units, and the Arroyo at Monrovia Station plan on West Evergreen Avenue calls for 324. In buildings this size the move runs through management, with an elevator or loading-area booking, and our apartment moving crews pad the elevator and protect the corridor walls.
The two historic districts are small and specific. North Encinitas covers the 100 and 200 blocks of North Encinitas Avenue: 64 properties, 38 of them contributing Victorian-era and Craftsman houses from a working-class neighborhood that grew between 1888 and 1922. The Wild Rose Tract, designated in 2008, is a block of Craftsman bungalows on Wildrose Avenue. On both streets, furniture goes through original doorways in pieces rather than being forced, and the runners stay down until the last box is out.
Check the city line before you plan permits. South of Monrovia, the unincorporated South Monrovia Islands answer to Los Angeles County, so the city's encroachment and overnight permits don't apply there. About 88 percent of that land is single-family, almost all post-war tract houses, with Live Oak Avenue as the main business street and two-thirds of households owning their homes. There, the driver plans the truck's spot from the posted county signs instead.
| Area or home type in Monrovia | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Old Town, along Myrtle Avenue | Free parking under posted signs; the Friday street fair from 5 PM; Monrovia Days closures in May |
| Station Square apartments by the A Line station | Elevator or loading-area booking with management; a COI ($50) if the building asks for one |
| North Encinitas and Wild Rose Tract historic blocks | Porch piers, original floors and narrow doors: pads, runners and furniture taken apart |
| City streets with posted sweeping days | Truck placed off the swept side; a no-fee Public Works permit posted 48 hours ahead holds spaces |
| South Monrovia Islands (unincorporated) | County rules instead of city permits; mostly post-war single-family tracts |
Our crews leave from one base, 5530 Jillson Street in Los Angeles, and Monrovia is about 21.5 miles away, around 30 minutes without traffic. The route is SR-60 east, I-605 north, then I-210 for the final stretch into town.
Rush hour changes that. Metro's own blog calls the 210 "oft-congested", and the I-605 leg slows in the same weekday peaks, so a load that wraps up before the afternoon rush keeps the clock from running in traffic on the drive between homes.
Monrovia is well under the 30 miles that would raise the minimum to 4 hours, so moves here carry our standard 3-hour minimum, with overtime after 8 hours. As the rates page puts it, double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles.
Moving services in Monrovia run on the same clock as the rest of our calendar: Monday through Sunday, 8AM – 6PM, with a same-day move possible when a crew is free. A full house in the historic blocks takes more of that window than an apartment does, so for a big load, take the 8AM start.
East along the foothills, Azusa shares both of Monrovia's corridors: the city sits off the 210, and the A Line continues from Monrovia Station to the Azusa Downtown and APU/Citrus College stations, so moving to or from Azusa keeps the truck on the same freeway.
Baldwin Park sits right beside that route: its southwest corner is the I-10 and I-605 interchange, which our trucks pass on the way up to Monrovia, and moves in Baldwin Park share that I-605 corridor.
To the southwest, the county's South Monrovia Islands border Temple City, so a move to Temple City from the Live Oak Avenue tracts is a short cross-town run.
