Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.
A safe relocation is our goal, so we’ll provide you with a detailed list of items that are prohibited to transport. It includes perishables, hazardous materials, firearms, batteries, etc. We also don’t recommend packing your personal and irreplaceable items, including family heirlooms, family photos, jewelry, documents, etc. Carry them with you during the move.
We accept cash, all major debit and credit cards, and certified checks. We don’t accept personal checks. There will not apply any transaction fee on card transactions.
Yes, we’ll contact you prior to delivery. We’ll deliver your belongings within the given moving arrival window. In case the window is no longer possible, we’ll also contact you in advance and set another delivery time.
Northridge is a neighborhood inside the City of Los Angeles, in the San Fernando Valley, so there is no separate city hall to deal with: the curb rules and parking signs on moving day are LADOT's. Mapping L.A. ranks its share of residents aged 19 to 34 among the highest in Los Angeles County, no surprise in a neighborhood with a Cal State campus. We size the crew to what is actually moving: two movers and a truck for a small apartment, three or four for a full house, and at least three for any piece over 300 lbs, which adds $150.
At Northridge Meadows, 9565 Reseda Boulevard, the 1994 earthquake that carries the neighborhood's name killed 16 people when the top two floors of the wood-frame complex came down on a ground floor built around tuck-under parking. That building type, apartments stacked over open parking, is what Los Angeles ordered owners to reinforce under its 2015 soft-story retrofit ordinance, and nearly 14,000 buildings citywide fell under it. Retrofitted or not, the layout reads the same to a moving crew: living space upstairs, cars below.
For movers in Northridge, the first question about an apartment is the staircase, not the square footage. In a walk-up over tuck-under parking, a box truck cannot fit under the upper floor, so it stays at the curb. Our apartment moving crews carry furniture on the outside stairs and roll it to the truck on dollies, with pads on the rails, the corners and every door frame on the way.
Reseda Boulevard got the City of Los Angeles's first parking-protected bike lanes in 2015, and a project finished in March 2024 made the protected lanes continuous from Plummer Street south to Victory Boulevard. The order at the curb is flipped: the bike lane runs next to the sidewalk, parked cars sit outside it as a buffer from traffic, and concrete bus-boarding islands stand at about a dozen stops. On some narrower blocks, plastic posts do the protecting instead of parked cars.
At a Reseda Boulevard address, that puts a live bike lane between the truck and the front door. The crew parks only in the marked parking lane, never in the bike lane or at a bus stop, and walks each load across with one mover watching for riders. If your block has no legal curb space on the boulevard, or the building has a side-street entrance or a driveway, we plan the stop there, so tell us which it is when you book.
Buildings add their own rules, and even CSUN's student housing runs move-in on a clock: for fall 2026 it gave each building an assigned unloading lot and every car a short, fixed window to unload. Off campus, ask the manager or HOA three things before the date is set: whether the elevator must be reserved, what the certificate of insurance has to say, and which hours are open for moves. SOS issues the COI for $50; you reserve the elevator or loading area and send us the written rules, and the crew builds its parking plan around them.
Sherwood Forest is a pocket of Northridge bounded by Nordhoff Street, Balboa Boulevard, Lindley Avenue and the railroad tracks, and the City Council made the name official in 2012. It started as a subdivision of estates and small ranches, an acre or two each under tall trees, and Parthenia Street, its main street, was once lined with cedars. The yards are still green, with trees that have stood for decades.
Planted lots like these can mean a longer carry from the curb to the door. The crew lays runners from the entry to the rooms being emptied, pads door frames before the first dresser moves, and checks overhanging branches before backing a box truck toward the house. A long carry means more trips, so for a full house here we suggest three or four movers rather than two.
CSUN's Student Housing office sits at 17950 Lassen Street, and the 2026-27 contract for The Park Apartments and Suites runs from August 22 to May 15; the spring 2026 move-in day was January 16. On the fall 2026 move-in weekend, returning residents came in on Friday and new residents on Saturday, when cars were sent east on Lassen with right turns only into the housing entrance. If you rent near campus, keep your own move off those days if the lease allows.
Moving a student into campus housing is its own case. Unloading lots are assigned by building and vehicle time there is limited, so read the current move-in guide and ask Student Housing how a moving truck fits that plan before you book a crew.
For Northridge moving and storage, the same calendar is the one to plan around: the housing contract ends in mid-May and fall move-in comes in late August, which leaves a summer to cover. Our storage service holds furniture between the two addresses, and if the new place opens only the next day, overnight storage is $200.
| Block or home type in Northridge | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Reseda Boulevard from Plummer Street south | Bike lane at the curb, parking lane outside it, bus islands at stops. The truck uses the parking lane only, and every load crosses the bike lane. |
| Sherwood Forest (Nordhoff, Balboa, Lindley, rail line) | Planted lots and old trees. Expect longer carries, runners on entry floors and a branch check before the truck backs in. |
| Rentals near CSUN housing on Lassen Street | Check the CSUN housing calendar: late-August move-in and the mid-May contract end are the dates to avoid if you can. |
| Walk-ups over tuck-under parking | No elevator, truck at the curb. Outside stairs, dollies to the truck, pads on stair rails and corners. |
Northridge sits about 34.6 miles from our only base, at 5530 Jillson Street, and most of the drive is the I-5: around 46 minutes without traffic. Because that is more than 30 miles out, the minimum for a Northridge job is 4 hours instead of the standard 3. As our local moving terms put it, double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles.
Rush hour on the I-5 through downtown, Glendale and Burbank is what stretches the trip, far more than the distance itself. Crews work Monday through Sunday, 8AM to 6PM, so a full Northridge house fits the day more easily with a morning start than with an afternoon one. Same-day moves happen when a crew is free that day.
Those two facts shape moving services in Northridge before the first box is lifted: distance sets the 4-hour minimum, and traffic decides how much of the day goes to the road. Give us the exact address when you call 909-443-0004, and we will tell you plainly whether the job fits a single day.
Head south on Reseda Boulevard and the curb layout comes along: the protected lanes continue into Reseda as far as Victory Boulevard. That is why moves in Reseda along the boulevard get the same parking plan as a Northridge address on it.
Chatsworth lies along Northridge's western side, and Mapping L.A. lists the two as neighboring communities. A move between them is short, so most of the paid time goes into loading and unloading rather than the road; moving in Chatsworth has its own page with the local details.
