Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.
A safe relocation is our goal, so we’ll provide you with a detailed list of items that are prohibited to transport. It includes perishables, hazardous materials, firearms, batteries, etc. We also don’t recommend packing your personal and irreplaceable items, including family heirlooms, family photos, jewelry, documents, etc. Carry them with you during the move.
We accept cash, all major debit and credit cards, and certified checks. We don’t accept personal checks. There will not apply any transaction fee on card transactions.
Yes, we’ll contact you prior to delivery. We’ll deliver your belongings within the given moving arrival window. In case the window is no longer possible, we’ll also contact you in advance and set another delivery time.
La Puente fits a lot of living into about three and a half square miles of the San Gabriel Valley, and most of it went up in one wave. The city's Housing Element dates 55 percent of homes to 1940–1959 and roughly four in five to before 1980; three in four units are single-family houses. For movers in La Puente, that usually means a short carry to the curb and rooms laid out long before sectional sofas and king-size headboards.
The bigger variable is the household. The average home here held 4.24 people in the 2015–2019 census survey, against 2.99 countywide, and about a third of households have five or more members. That is more beds, dressers and boxes than the square footage suggests, so size the crew to the household, not the bedroom count. Three movers with a truck are $159 cash or $169 card an hour Monday through Thursday, and our packing service can take the boxes off the family's hands.
Crowding reshapes the lots, too. County planners call garage conversions common in neighboring South San Jose Hills, and the city's housing plan funds bedroom additions and encourages backyard units. A property like that can mean two moves at one address: the front house plus a converted garage or back unit at the end of a long driveway. The crew lays floor runners in both, pads the door jambs, and labels boxes by unit.
Street parking comes first. The Housing Element links the city's crowded households to heavier on-street parking, and county planners hear the same complaint in the unincorporated neighborhoods next door. Park your own cars at the curb the evening before and pull them out when the truck arrives. Trees count as well: the city maintains 4,986 parkway trees, so on some blocks the truck's spot is picked for branch clearance as much as for distance to the door.
A moving sale inside city limits needs a yard sale permit from City Hall. The municipal code allows one sale per address every six months, for up to two consecutive days, between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m., with goods kept at least three feet back from the sidewalk and street. Signs belong only on the property, never on a car. Hold the sale a weekend or more ahead so the driveway is empty on loading day.
Whatever doesn't sell can go with the trash. Valley Vista Services, the city's franchised hauler, gives residents three on-call bulky-item pickups a year, up to four items each, at no extra charge, booked ahead of the regular collection day. Schedule one for the week before the move and the old mattress, couch or refrigerator is gone before the truck arrives.
A few addresses come with paperwork. The 45 detached homes finished at 747 Del Valle in 2019 are a condominium community; if the association asks for a certificate of insurance, order the COI ($50) when you book. For the apartment complexes on Nelson Avenue and Amar Road, or senior buildings such as Sunny Garden Apartments, ask the manager where a truck can stand and reserve any elevator; our apartment moving crews plan the carry around that answer.
A La Puente mailing address doesn't always mean the City of La Puente. The county's own guide lists Avocado Heights Park, on Don Julian Drive, at a La Puente 91746 address, and unincorporated Valinda, West Puente Valley and South San Jose Hills border the city to the north and east. There the county maintains the roads and handles trash service, so the city's yard sale permit and bulky pickups don't apply; check which side of the line you're on first.
Avocado Heights, between the City of Industry and the San Gabriel River, is the outlier: flat, mostly owner-occupied, with a county equestrian district adopted in 1991 and a community standards district that protects its open character. Horse properties can mean longer carries from barns and back buildings to the street, so ask that animals stay clear of the loading path.
In West Puente Valley, stretches of Puente Avenue, Amar Road and Sunset Avenue run beside parallel frontage roads, and Hacienda Boulevard has one on its Valinda side. County planners list Puente, Amar and Sunset among their Vision Zero collision corridors. When a house faces a frontage road, the truck loads there, out of the through lanes.
The Downtown Business District Specific Plan lets buildings on Main Street, Glendora Avenue and First through Third streets sit right at the property line, with apartments allowed above ground-floor shops. With no driveway to stage from, the truck needs curb space near the door, and the crew keeps the public sidewalk passable while it loads.
| Area or housing type in La Puente | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Postwar single-family homes, most of the city | Short carry, crowded curbs: hold the truck's spot with your own cars the evening before |
| Lots with a converted garage or back unit | Two households at one address: label boxes by unit and clear the driveway |
| Downtown: Main Street, Glendora Avenue, First through Third streets | Buildings at the property line and no driveway: truck at the curb, loading across the sidewalk |
| Senior apartments such as Sunny Garden | City standards allow senior buildings up to five stories: reserve any elevator with the office |
| Avocado Heights, La Puente 91746, county area | Horse properties and longer carries; county rules, not city permits |
Every SOS crew leaves from our only office, 5530 Jillson Street, Los Angeles, CA 90040. La Puente is about 16 miles east on SR-60, around 25 minutes without traffic, and Hacienda Boulevard then runs north through the City of Industry into town. That stretch of the 60 passes Industry's warehouse district, so heavy trucks share the lanes with commuters.
Commuters on the 60 push toward downtown Los Angeles in the morning and back east in the late afternoon, and county planners note that a jammed freeway spills drivers onto local streets. A morning start runs our truck east against the inbound crush, and an afternoon drive west runs against the evening flow.
La Puente sits well inside the 30-mile line, so the 3-hour minimum applies, and double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles; the local moving rates page covers the rest. Our moving services in La Puente run Monday – Sunday, 8AM – 6PM, and a same-day move is possible when a crew is free: call 909-443-0004.
West Covina borders La Puente and wraps around Valinda on the north and east, so a hop between the two can run partly on county streets; see our West Covina moving page. Baldwin Park begins where West Puente Valley ends, just past the city's northwest edge, which keeps moves to Baldwin Park short. Whittier lies across the Puente Hills to the southwest, and with a loaded truck the freeway around the hills beats the canyon roads over them: moving in Whittier.
