Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.

El Monte, a San Gabriel Valley city in Los Angeles County, is a town of renters. The city's Housing Element counts 60 percent of homes as renter-occupied, calls its ownership rate the lowest in the valley, and finds 45 percent of single-family houses rented out. For movers in El Monte, that means plenty of house moves end with keys going back to a landlord on a date the lease already set.
The houses skew old. About a third went up between 1940 and 1959, and another 7 percent are older still. Rooms from that era run compact and interior doorways narrow. The crew takes bed frames and table legs apart before a piece reaches the hall, pads the door jambs and covers the floors along the carry path.
Households run bigger than the county norm, too: 3.82 people on average against 2.99 countywide, by the same report. A two-bedroom holding bunk beds, a crib and garage shelving loads like a larger home, so list those pieces when you ask for a quote instead of giving only the bedroom count.
Then there are mobile homes: 1,666 units, about 5 percent of the housing stock. In a park the truck stops in a shared lane, so ask the park office where a truck may stand and whether the park sets move hours. Mobile home doors and hallways are tight; furniture goes out wrapped in pads, and anything that will not clear the frame comes apart first.
Start with the sweeping sign on your block. El Monte's code bans parking during posted sweeping hours, and the city schedule sweeps residential streets on weekdays in either a 7 a.m. to noon or a noon to 5 p.m. window, with Friday runs of 7 to 11 a.m. and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. On your sweep day that can take the curb away for half of an 8AM – 6PM moving day, so keep the driveway open for the truck or pick a different date.
Two code sections aimed at large commercial vehicles matter as well. The city may post residential streets where commercial vehicles rated at 10,000 pounds or more cannot park. On designated streets, a commercial vehicle taller than six feet has to stay 100 feet back from an intersection. Both rules exempt temporary loading and unloading, and a mid-block spot clear of the corner keeps the question from coming up.
El Monte also signs truck routes: all of Valley Boulevard, Santa Anita Avenue, Peck Road and Tyler Avenue, Lower Azusa Road across town, and Garvey Avenue from the west city line to the freeway. Off those routes, a commercial vehicle takes the direct way to its pickup or delivery, and that is how the driver plans the approach to your street.
Complexes bring their own paperwork. River East is mostly planned multi-family developments, and the Downtown Core puts apartments and senior housing north of the freeway; management there may want your move on its calendar and proof of insurance. Reserve the elevator or loading area yourself, and if the office asks for a certificate of insurance, SOS issues a COI for $50. For a unit in one of those buildings, see how apartment moves with SOS are organized.
El Monte's office district is Flair Business Park, one of the city's main employment districts, where banks and state and county agencies are major employers. Office buildings like these usually route dock time, elevators and insurance requests through property management, so that paperwork starts before the first desk is wrapped; the office and commercial moving page covers the rest.
The Housing Element divides El Monte into six residential neighborhoods, each with its own lots, streets and history. Here is what that changes on moving day.
| Neighborhood in El Monte | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Norwood-Cherrylee | A third of the city. Part of it was laid out as an experimental federal homestead tract with deep lots for backyard farming, some houses by the rivers still keep horses, and many northern streets have no sidewalks. Expect a longer carry, sometimes over gravel or dirt. |
| Arden Village and Gibson-Mariposa | Small, uniform lots between the Rio Hondo and the San Gabriel Valley Airport; near Baldwin Avenue and Valley Boulevard, homes share blocks with industrial buildings. Frontage is short, so keep the driveway clear. |
| Park El Monte | Wide, curving streets and low-scale houses southeast of Flair Park. Curb room is easy to find; pick a straight stretch where drivers can see the truck. |
| Mountain View | Houses, apartments and mobile homes side by side near the San Gabriel River, with the Garvey and Durfee corridors planned for new housing. Confirm the unit type up front and, in a park, where the truck may stop. |
| Downtown Core | Small-lot houses south of Ramona; denser buildings and senior housing north of I-10, near the Metrolink station and El Monte Station. Check move hours with the building office. |
| River East | Mostly planned multi-family developments around Zamora Park, between the San Gabriel River and I-10. Ask management where a truck may stand on the internal drives. |
El Monte sits about 13.1 miles from the SOS base at 5530 Jillson Street, north on I-710 and east on I-10, around 19 minutes without traffic. The heavy I-10 commute flows toward downtown in the morning and back out to the valley late in the day. An 8AM start usually runs against it; an afternoon load from central Los Angeles into El Monte rides with the crowd. I-710 is a port-truck corridor, so the first leg shares the road with container rigs.
Because the city is well inside 30 miles of the base, the minimum is 3 hours, not 4. The rates page adds one travel rule: double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles. Moving services in El Monte run Monday – Sunday, 8AM – 6PM, and same-day moving is possible when a crew is free.
Three neighbors share roads with El Monte. Temple City touches its northwest edge, and Lower Azusa Road, a truck route across El Monte, meets Rosemead Boulevard where Temple City's stretch of that boulevard begins; see moving in Temple City. Valley Boulevard continues west through Rosemead into San Gabriel, the direct surface line for moves between El Monte and San Gabriel. East across the San Gabriel River, I-10 carries on into Baldwin Park, covered on the Baldwin Park moving page.
