Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.

Carson, in the southern half of Los Angeles County, is a city of houses rather than towers. Its housing plan puts 78 percent of homes in the single-family column and fewer than one in ten in buildings with five or more units, and most of the city was already built out by 1981. For movers in Carson, that means garages, side yards and hallways laid out decades ago, with elevator bookings the exception.
Households here run large: 3.62 people on average, against just under three for the county, and more than a third of owner-occupied homes have four or more bedrooms. A four-bedroom house with a full garage is usually a job for three or four movers, not two. Bed frames, dining tables and sectionals come apart in the room, get padded, and leave in pieces.
The population also skews older than the county. In 40.7 percent of Carson households someone is 65 or older (28.1 percent countywide), and about 85 percent of senior households own their homes. Many of these jobs are downsizing moves after decades in one house, so packing sets the pace: our packing service works room by room, and furniture the new place cannot hold can go to storage instead of the curb.
Carson bars large commercial vehicles, meaning over 6,000 pounds gross, 25 feet long or 96 inches wide, from parking on any city street at any time, with narrow exceptions (CMC 3254.2). The parking code does exempt vehicles making pickups or deliveries at a residence, which is exactly what loading day is. So the curb plan comes down to one thing: the space in front of the house kept open for the truck.
Reaching the house has its own rule. The city keeps a network of designated truck routes (CMC 3260), and the state exception quoted on the city's truck-route page lets a commercial vehicle leave that network to make a pickup or delivery on a restricted street. Industry covers more of Carson than housing does: the housing plan counts 42.3 percent of land as industrial against 28.2 percent residential, and the city is home to the Marathon and Phillips 66 refineries. Our route plan follows the nearest truck route and turns off as close to your block as the map allows.
Townhome associations and property managers sometimes ask for a certificate of insurance before a moving truck pulls in. SOS issues one for $50; ask for it when you book so it reaches the office ahead of the day. The city's zoning has favored single-family homes and two- to three-story townhomes over apartment towers, so expect stairs in these complexes, and expect the crew to pad rails, landings and door frames before the first piece comes down.
Before the date we ask for three things: the curb in front of the house clear of your own cars, an answer from the HOA or park office on where the truck may stand, and, in any building with an elevator, the elevator reserved in your name.
Mobile homes are a real part of Carson's housing: 2,456 of them, about 9 percent of the total, and the city's space rent control ordinance covers 21 mobile home parks. Each park runs its own rules for trucks and visitors, so call the park office before the date and ask where a moving truck can stand and for how long. At the home itself, the crew lays floor runners from the door to the steps and pads the entry railing.
Some Carson neighborhoods sit inside preferential parking zones, lettered A through F on the city's map. There, permits are enforced from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day except Sunday, which swallows our entire 8AM – 6PM working day, and each home gets up to three resident permits and two visitor permits. Hand the visitor permits to relatives who come to help, or book a Sunday, when the zones are not enforced.
On the Dominguez Hills stretch of Avalon Boulevard, the calendar matters as much as the address. Dignity Health Sports Park, home of the LA Galaxy, sits at 18400 Avalon Blvd next to the Cal State Dominguez Hills campus, with its rideshare zone at Avalon and 184th Street. If you live near there, check the home schedule before you pick a date: match crowds and a loaded moving truck want the same lanes.
| Home type or area in Carson | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Single-family house (about 78 percent of homes) | Count the garage as a room when you describe the load; keep the curb in front of the house clear. |
| Mobile home in one of the 21 rent-controlled parks | Ask the park office where the truck may stand and whether it wants a certificate of insurance. |
| Two- or three-story townhome | Stairs rather than an elevator; check the association's move rules and guest parking before the date. |
| Street in preferential zones A–F | Permits enforced 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday; give helpers the visitor permits. |
| Near Avalon Blvd and 184th Street | Check the LA Galaxy home schedule and avoid match days if the date is flexible. |
| Building with five or more units (under 10 percent of homes) | Reserve the elevator or loading area with management and confirm where the truck can stand. |
Crews leave the base at 5530 Jillson Street and head south on I-710: about 16.2 miles, around 25 minutes without traffic. The 710 is the main freight route between the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach and the rail yards in Commerce and Vernon, so port trucks share the lanes with commuters, and weekday rush hours slow it further. Carson also connects to the 110, the 91 and the 405, and which one finishes the trip depends on your side of town.
Pricing for moving services in Carson uses the standard rate sheet. Carson is well inside 30 miles of the base, so the 3-hour minimum applies, with overtime after 8 hours, and our rates page states that double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles. Every job runs inside the 8AM – 6PM window, Monday – Sunday, and same-day moves are possible when a crew is free.
Compton begins right across Alondra Boulevard on Carson's north edge, and even a short move over that line means a second city's parking rules; see moving crews in Compton. Torrance appears in Carson's housing plan as a neighboring city and as the only nearby city where median rent ran higher than Carson's; if that is where you are headed, see moving help in Torrance.
