Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.
A safe relocation is our goal, so we’ll provide you with a detailed list of items that are prohibited to transport. It includes perishables, hazardous materials, firearms, batteries, etc. We also don’t recommend packing your personal and irreplaceable items, including family heirlooms, family photos, jewelry, documents, etc. Carry them with you during the move.
We accept cash, all major debit and credit cards, and certified checks. We don’t accept personal checks. There will not apply any transaction fee on card transactions.

Most of Montebello was built in one rush. Farmland turned into tract housing between the late 1940s and the 1960s, and about two-thirds of the homes standing today went up before 1970, with the 1950s the biggest single decade. Floors and door frames that old are the fragile part of the job, so our movers in Montebello lay runners from the entry to the back bedrooms and pad the jambs before the first dresser comes through.
More than half of Montebello households rent. Twenty-nine percent of the city's homes sit in buildings with five or more units, and another 12.5 percent in duplexes, triplexes and fourplexes. For those moves, get two answers from the manager before the date: where a truck may stand, and whether the building wants a certificate of insurance, which SOS provides for $50. Our apartment moving crews build the day around those answers.
The ground helps. Montebello is flat nearly everywhere; the real slopes are confined to the Montebello Hills along the northern edge, much of them still a producing oil field and the natural divide between the city and the San Gabriel Valley. On flat lots the time goes into distance rather than grade, so the number that matters most is how far from your door the truck can legally stop.
Since August 2024, Montebello Municipal Code 10.68.010 has required a city permit to park an oversized vehicle on the street, and violators can be towed. Those permits go to residents for vehicles registered in their own names, and unhitched trailers are banned from the street outright, so a rental trailer can't wait at the curb. SOS plans the curb as a working stop: the truck stands there while the crew loads or unloads, and the driveway comes first whenever it fits.
Some blocks are Preferential Parking Districts, where parking in the public right-of-way takes a city permit, issued to each parcel as household and visitor permits. If your block is one, say so when you book, and ask the city's Parking Enforcement Division how a moving truck should stand there on the day. Montebello also tickets cars left out on street-sweeping day, so the crew checks your block's sweeping day before choosing a spot.
The boulevards run on their own clocks. Whittier Boulevard has free two-hour parking from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Washington Boulevard keeps its curb mostly off-limits west of Greenwood Avenue, and east of Greenwood the curb must be clear from 4 to 6 p.m. A move that outlasts two hours, or an afternoon load on Washington, belongs on a side street, a driveway or the building's own lot, and that spot is settled before the truck leaves the base.
The city's noise code, section 9.08.050, targets loading and unloading noise that disturbs the peace between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. SOS works 8AM – 6PM, so every carry on your street falls inside the hours the code leaves alone.
Downtown Montebello runs roughly from Greenwood Avenue east to the Rio Hondo, and from Cleveland Avenue south to Los Angeles Avenue. Whittier Boulevard, made part of Highway 101 in 1926, narrows as it enters downtown and doubles as a bus corridor: Montebello Bus Lines runs fixed routes on Whittier, Washington, Montebello and Beverly boulevards. A bus stop is never a loading spot, so a downtown move on the boulevard puts the truck on the nearest side street.
Beverly Boulevard crosses the whole city, from the East Los Angeles line to the Rio Hondo, and its two-hour limits keep different hours by side: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on the north curb, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the south. For a home on Beverly, the side of the street changes how long a truck can stay at a given hour.
Bicknell Park holds the Armenian Genocide Martyrs Monument, the towering memorial erected in the 1960s, and every April it draws a large crowd for the commemoration of the Armenian Genocide. If your move falls on commemoration day near the park, mention it when you book so the parking plan allows for the crowd.
| Area or home type in Montebello | What to plan for on move day |
|---|---|
| Postwar tract house, late 1940s to 1960s | Runners over original floors, pads on door jambs, the truck in the driveway if it fits |
| Unit in a building with five or more homes | The manager's answer on truck placement, a COI if the building asks, the elevator reserved by you if there is one |
| Whittier Boulevard downtown | Two-hour limit from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., a narrower road east of Greenwood, bus stops along the curb: the truck goes on a side street |
| Washington Boulevard | Curb mostly closed west of Greenwood; east of it, clear by 4 p.m., so the load starts early |
| Preferential Parking District block | Street parking needs a city permit; ask Parking Enforcement how a moving truck can stand there |
| Near Bicknell Park in April | A large crowd on commemoration day; mention the date when you book |
From our base on Jillson Street, Montebello is about 3.8 miles away, around 9 minutes without traffic, on surface streets the whole way. The city's heaviest traffic runs on the 60 along its northern edge, on I-5 along the south, and on Montebello Boulevard, Garfield Avenue, Beverly, Whittier and Washington. Weekday rush hours slow all of them, and an 8AM start lets a Washington Boulevard load finish well before the 4 p.m. clearance.
Moving services in Montebello run on the standard 3-hour minimum, since the city sits well inside 30 miles of the base, and double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles. We work Monday through Sunday, 8AM – 6PM, and the short drive makes a same-day move realistic whenever a crew is free.
Commerce borders Montebello on the southwest, where the Montebello/Commerce Metrolink station sits south of Olympic Boulevard near the city line; our Commerce moving page covers that side. The Rio Hondo separates Montebello from Pico Rivera on the east, and Whittier and Beverly both cross it, so a move between the two is a straight run on either boulevard. To the north, Monterey Park shares the city line that the 60 runs along.
