Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.
A safe relocation is our goal, so we’ll provide you with a detailed list of items that are prohibited to transport. It includes perishables, hazardous materials, firearms, batteries, etc. We also don’t recommend packing your personal and irreplaceable items, including family heirlooms, family photos, jewelry, documents, etc. Carry them with you during the move.
We accept cash, all major debit and credit cards, and certified checks. We don’t accept personal checks. There will not apply any transaction fee on card transactions.
Yes, we’ll contact you prior to delivery. We’ll deliver your belongings within the given moving arrival window. In case the window is no longer possible, we’ll also contact you in advance and set another delivery time.
La Mirada began as Andrew McNally's ranch land on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County, planted in citrus and olives. By 1956 thirteen housing tracts had gone up, and the city incorporated in 1960. The city's Housing Element dates nearly half of today's homes to the 1950s and puts the median year built at 1960.
Eight in ten of the city's 15,175 homes are detached single-family houses, and households run larger than the county's: 3.1 people on average against 2.92. So the usual job here is a whole family house, garage included. The crew pads each piece, lays floor protection from the bedrooms to the front door, wraps the door frames and takes beds and dining tables apart before they travel.
Owners live in 77.3% of occupied homes, and the city is built out: it added just 368 housing units between 2000 and 2020. Buying here almost always means moving into an older house rather than a new build, so measure the doorways at the new place before moving day. Anything that won't clear goes out in pieces, and our packing services take the boxes off your list if that is the part you would rather hand off.
Every residential street and major arterial in La Mirada gets swept once a week, and parking is restricted during the posted hours. The city puts those signs at the entrance of each housing tract, not on every block, and it writes tickets even when it rains. EDCO's La Mirada schedule lookup shows your sweeping day next to your trash day; send us both when you book, and the truck spot gets planned around them.
Some blocks are Preferential Parking Districts, signed "Permit Parking Only," and the city cites any vehicle there without a permit, guests' cars included. Temporary visitor permits are issued at the La Mirada Community Sheriff's Station behind City Hall on La Mirada Boulevard, and you will need proof of residency. Pick one up for the truck, plus one for any helper's car, before the move.
EDCO, the city's trash hauler, collects bulky items by request, generally on your regular collection day: furniture, stoves, refrigerators, water heaters and one TV go out to the curb or the end of the driveway by 6 a.m. Book that pickup for a day before the move, so the sofa you are leaving is gone when the truck needs the curb. On collection day, bins can sit at the curb until 10 p.m., so a trash-day move needs a truck spot that works around them.
Unlike its neighbors, La Mirada kept strip commercial off its arterials, so houses line Rosecrans Avenue, La Mirada Boulevard, Imperial Highway, Santa Gertrudes Avenue and Beach Boulevard. Imperial is a busy three-mile corridor across the full width of the city, and its specific plan steers new mixed-use housing there. On these roads the truck stays out of the traffic lanes: the crew loads from the driveway or the nearest side street and carries the extra distance.
Downsizing does not have to mean leaving town. The Housing Element lists senior communities across La Mirada: Landmark Active Adult Community on Avenida Santa Tecla, with individually owned condominiums, The Palms on La Mirada Boulevard, Somerset Glen on Hillsborough Drive and Breezewood Village on Grayville Drive. Going from a tract house to a smaller unit means deciding what fits first; what doesn't can go to storage instead of crowding the new living room.
Renters are a minority here, 22.7% of occupied homes, but they cluster: the Housing Element points to Green Hillsborough for its high share of renters, and to Biola University for a student population with housing needs of its own, dorm rooms included. Moving services in La Mirada for that crowd look like apartment moves: smaller loads, shared parking lots, sometimes stairs. A studio or a dorm room is a light job for two movers, and the 3-hour minimum still applies.
South of Stage Road the city turns industrial, close to the rail line and the freeway. Moving an office or a shop floor there is work for commercial movers: the crew takes workstations apart, wraps equipment and loads by the labels you set.
| Area or home type in La Mirada | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| 1950s tract house, most of the city | Check the sweeping sign at the tract entrance, clear the driveway, expect beds and tables to come apart |
| Block signed "Permit Parking Only" | Temporary permits from the Sheriff's Station behind City Hall before the truck parks |
| House on Imperial Highway, La Mirada Boulevard or Rosecrans Avenue | Loading from the driveway or a side street, clear of the traffic lanes |
| Senior community on Avenida Santa Tecla, La Mirada Boulevard or Hillsborough Drive | The office's move hours, and a COI if the office asks for one |
| Rental near Biola University or in Green Hillsborough | A smaller load and a shared lot; the 3-hour minimum still counts |
| Business space south of Stage Road | Workstations taken apart and loaded in the order of your labels |
From the base on Jillson Street, La Mirada is one freeway away: about 12.7 miles down the I-5, around 20 minutes without traffic. Caltrans widened the stretch between the I-605 and the Orange County line and rebuilt six interchanges, Alondra Boulevard and Valley View Avenue among them. The extra lanes have not erased the weekday rush, which slows the freeway both ways in the morning and late afternoon; weekends skip it, though Friday through Sunday rates run higher.
SOS works 8AM – 6PM, Monday through Sunday, and takes same-day moves when a crew is free. The minimum is 3 hours, since La Mirada sits well inside 30 miles of the base, and double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles. When you compare La Mirada moving company quotes, ask each one about those two lines before comparing rates.
Norwalk is on the same I-5 run from the base, and the two cities share a school district, Norwalk-La Mirada Unified; see moving in Norwalk. Cerritos moves and Buena Park moves start just across La Mirada's southern line, and the Valley View Avenue interchange project ran through all three cities.
