Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.
A safe relocation is our goal, so we’ll provide you with a detailed list of items that are prohibited to transport. It includes perishables, hazardous materials, firearms, batteries, etc. We also don’t recommend packing your personal and irreplaceable items, including family heirlooms, family photos, jewelry, documents, etc. Carry them with you during the move.
We accept cash, all major debit and credit cards, and certified checks. We don’t accept personal checks. There will not apply any transaction fee on card transactions.
Yes, we’ll contact you prior to delivery. We’ll deliver your belongings within the given moving arrival window. In case the window is no longer possible, we’ll also contact you in advance and set another delivery time.
Hawthorne, the South Bay city in Los Angeles County that sits just south of the 105 Freeway, is a renter's town. Housing data compiled by SCAG for the city's housing element shows nearly three in four households rent, and more than half of all homes are in buildings with five or more units, about twice the regional share. For movers in Hawthorne, that makes the usual job an apartment door and a stairwell rather than a garage and a driveway.
Most of the buildings are postwar. The 1950s were Hawthorne's biggest building decade, the 1960s came next, and roughly seven in ten homes went up before 1980. We plan every apartment job as a stair carry until you tell us there's an elevator, and the crew pads furniture inside the unit, lays floor runners, covers railings and door jambs, and takes beds and tables apart before anything starts down a flight.
About three in ten homes are detached houses, and a little over four percent are attached single-family homes such as townhouses. Where an association or property manager asks for a certificate of insurance, a COI from us costs $50, and you book the elevator or the move window on their calendar. For the rest of what a building job involves, see our apartment moving service.
Hawthorne's municipal code bars commercial vehicles from stopping or parking on streets that front residential zones, R-1 through R-4, except while they are necessarily loading or unloading. A Hawthorne moving company's truck fits that exception only while the crew is working. So ours shows up on moving day, parks as close to your door as the curb allows and leaves when the last box is on; it doesn't sit on your block the evening before.
The city runs trash pickup on the same day as street sweeping for almost every household, which makes that day the hardest one for curb space: posted sweeping hours plus a row of carts at the edge. If you can choose, skip your block's sweeping day; if you can't, give us the posted hours when you book so the truck isn't parked into them. Hawthorne police don't enforce sweeping on a set list of holidays, among them Labor Day, Veterans Day, the day after Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
Two other rules show up on Hawthorne signs. Some residential streets are preferential parking zones, where a car without a displayed permit can't park against the posted restriction, and major streets carry peak-traffic limits that police enforce alongside sweeping and time limits. Read the signs on both sides of your street a few days out, and we'll plan the truck position around what they say instead of hoping for a gap.
What we ask of you: move your own cars off the curb in front of the building the evening before, have gate, garage and carport access ready, and reserve any elevator. Getting rid of furniture first? Homes on city trash carts get four free bulky-item pickups a year through Republic Services, up to 64 cubic feet each, and items can go to the curb only after the pickup is booked, so set it up well before moving day.
Hawthorne Boulevard is the city's spine, running from the 105 at the Lennox line down to the Lawndale border near Rosecrans Avenue, with the Metro C Line's Hawthorne/Lennox station in the freeway median at its north end. Buildings that front the boulevard sit on one of the major streets where peak-traffic parking rules can apply, so for those we look first at a side street or the building's own loading spot.
Cross the 105 on Hawthorne Boulevard and you're in Lennox, which is unincorporated county land; so is Del Aire, another county pocket on Hawthorne's edge. The city's code doesn't govern the curb there, so the county's posted signs are the ones to read before moving day.
| Where you live in Hawthorne | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Apartment in a five-plus-unit building, the most common Hawthorne home | Stair carry unless there's an elevator; your own cars off the curb out front; gate and carport access sorted with the manager |
| Building that fronts Hawthorne Boulevard or another major street | Posted peak-traffic parking hours; a side-street or on-site loading spot agreed ahead of time |
| Townhouse or condo with an association | COI ($50) if the association asks; elevator or move window booked on its calendar |
| Detached house on a residential street | Truck at the curb only while loading; sweeping hours checked for that day |
| North end by the 105 on a SoFi Stadium event day | Stadium lots open three to four hours before the start; begin loading early |
| Lennox or Del Aire address just outside the city | County signs, not Hawthorne's code, set the curb rules |
Our base is at 5530 Jillson Street in Los Angeles, and the route is the I-710 south to the I-105 west: about 17.5 miles, around 26 minutes without traffic. Because the 105 runs along Hawthorne's northern border, the truck reaches the city the moment it leaves the freeway.
Commute hours load up the 105 in both directions, and our crews work 8AM to 6PM, Monday through Sunday. A move within Hawthorne spends most of that window on stairs and in doorways, so traffic matters mainly on the way in and on the run to a farther destination. On SoFi Stadium event days in Inglewood, when stadium lots open three to four hours before the start, ask for a morning start at a north-side address.
Hawthorne is well inside 30 miles of the base, so the standard 3-hour minimum applies rather than the 4-hour one. As our rates put it, double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles. For moves that stay in the South Bay, see our local moving service.
Inglewood lies north across the 105, and Prairie Avenue and Crenshaw Boulevard carry traffic straight between the two cities, stadium crowds included. A short hop across that line is easy on a quiet day and slow on an event day; our page on moving in Inglewood covers the other side.
El Segundo is the neighbor to the west, and El Segundo Boulevard runs straight into it. The Wiseburn school district spans both: it serves Hollyglen in western Hawthorne and part of El Segundo, so a family moving from one to the other may keep the same district, depending on the address. Details for that city are on our El Segundo moving page.
Gardena borders Hawthorne on the east, and Rosecrans Avenue runs through both, so moves between them usually stay on surface streets. Our Gardena page has the detail for that side of the line.
