Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.
A safe relocation is our goal, so we’ll provide you with a detailed list of items that are prohibited to transport. It includes perishables, hazardous materials, firearms, batteries, etc. We also don’t recommend packing your personal and irreplaceable items, including family heirlooms, family photos, jewelry, documents, etc. Carry them with you during the move.
We accept cash, all major debit and credit cards, and certified checks. We don’t accept personal checks. There will not apply any transaction fee on card transactions.
Yes, we’ll contact you prior to delivery. We’ll deliver your belongings within the given moving arrival window. In case the window is no longer possible, we’ll also contact you in advance and set another delivery time.
Cerritos, in southeast Los Angeles County on the Orange County line, is a city of houses. State estimates in the city's 2021–2029 Housing Element count 91% of its 16,204 homes as single-family, and 84% of them were built between 1960 and 1979. The usual job here is a tract house with the enclosed two-car garage that single-family zoning requires. Our crew pads and wraps the furniture, lays runners over the floors and covers door frames before the first piece heads down the driveway.
The same document notes that much of the population that arrived in the 1960s and '70s never left, and that as their children moved out, the need shifted toward retirement living. Emptying a house held that long is mostly sorting, and our packing crews for downsizing moves work through it room by room. Furniture the new place can't take can go to storage instead of the curb.
For owners who want to stay in town, Cerritos has four senior housing communities: Pioneer Villas, with 98 one- and two-bedroom condos at Pioneer Boulevard and Eberle Street; Emerald Villas on Carmenita Road; Fountain Walk at 183rd Street and Carmenita; and The Grove at Cerritos, a 147-unit assisted living community at Studebaker Road and 166th Street. Going from a family house to one or two bedrooms means choosing what goes before packing day, not during it.
What stays behind has two city outlets. Athens Services, the city's trash hauler, picks up bulky items and e-waste for free: up to five items per pickup, booked at least 24 hours before your regular trash day and set at the curb by 7 a.m. The city also allows two garage sales a year, with signs out only on Saturdays and Sundays, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Point out what is staying, and the crew leaves it unwrapped.
Many renters here live in houses, too: the Housing Element ties the city's high rents partly to how many of its rentals are homes rather than apartments. The exceptions are the newest buildings, finished after 2014: Aria Apartments with 198 units, Avalon (formerly Sage) with 132, and the 25 Plaza Walk townhomes. Before booking, ask the leasing office or HOA what it needs; if that includes a certificate of insurance, SOS issues one for $50, and our apartment moving crews work to the window management gives you.
Cerritos keeps cars off its streets from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m.: under Municipal Code 10.02.040, a car parked on a city street in those hours needs a city permit, and permits go only to residents. If you arrive with more cars than your garage and driveway hold, the special circumstance permit, issued for more than 14 and fewer than 90 days, lists new residents moving into the city among its reasons. Processing can take two to three weeks, so apply before the truck comes.
Street sweeping comes the day after your trash pickup, or on Monday if trash goes out on Friday, and the curb is closed to parking for the four-hour sweeping window. The no-parking signs stand at the entrance to each housing tract rather than on every block, so they are easy to miss. Look up both addresses on the city's sweeping map and send us the day and hours, and we plan where the truck stands around them.
The rule that shapes weekend moves sits in Chapter 10.24 of the municipal code: no loading or unloading of a commercial vehicle for business in or within 500 feet of a residential zone before 7 a.m. on weekdays, before 10 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays, or after 10 p.m. SOS crews work 8AM – 6PM every day, so a weekday job keeps its normal start, while weekend and holiday bookings with movers in Cerritos should start loading at 10 a.m. or later. Monday through Thursday also has the lower rate: $119 cash or $129 card per hour for two movers with a truck, against $135 or $145 from Friday through Sunday.
For moving services in Cerritos, the type of home decides most of the plan for the day:
| Home type or area in Cerritos | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Tract house from the 1960s or '70s | Truck at the curb out front; sweeping signs are posted at the tract entrance; weekend loading from 10 a.m. |
| Pioneer Villas, Emerald Villas, Fountain Walk | Senior housing, with one or two bedrooms at Pioneer Villas: measure the rooms and ask management about move-in times. |
| The Grove at Cerritos, Studebaker Road and 166th Street | Assisted living with 147 units: agree on the move time with staff and bring only what the unit holds. |
| Aria, Avalon and Plaza Walk, built after 2014 | Management rules first: COI ($50 from SOS), a reserved time, any elevator booking. |
From our base on Jillson Street, the drive is the I-5 south: about 11.8 miles, around 18 minutes without traffic. The freeway passes Cerritos at its northeast corner, by Valley View Avenue, and weekday commute traffic through Downey and Norwalk can stretch that time. Cerritos is well inside 30 miles of the base, so the minimum is 3 hours, and as the rates page says, double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles. Same-day moves happen when a crew is free, inside the 8AM – 6PM day.
Inside the city, trucks keep to a grid mapped under Vehicle Code 35701: Alondra Boulevard and South Street run east-west, and Pioneer Boulevard, Studebaker Road and Valley View run north-south. The map marks Norwalk Boulevard off Alondra as southbound-only for trucks, and a city truck sheet puts a 3-ton limit on the Shoemaker Avenue bridge over the 91. State law lets a truck leave the grid by the direct route to a pickup or delivery, so the driver maps the last stretch to your street before the day starts.
Cerritos borders eight cities, and a move across any of those lines runs on two sets of city rules. Norwalk sits just north, along much of Alondra Boulevard, and the I-5 crosses it on the way down, so moving in Norwalk starts with the same freeway run.
Lakewood begins across Pioneer Boulevard in the southwest: at Del Amo Boulevard, the west side of the street is already Lakewood, right by Pioneer Villas. Our Lakewood moving crews cover that side of the street.
East across the county line lies Buena Park, in Orange County, and the 91 runs from Cerritos into it. For Buena Park moves, the Cerritos loading hours and sweeping map cover only the Cerritos address; check the rules at the Orange County end too.
