You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.

North Hollywood, in the southeast San Fernando Valley, is a district of the City of Los Angeles where most people rent. In the North Hollywood–Valley Village community plan area, 73.7% of occupied homes are rented and 72.4% of all units sit in multi-unit buildings, according to the city planning department's profile of 2017–2021 census estimates. That is why moving services in North Hollywood mostly start at an apartment door: a shared hallway, a stairwell or elevator the neighbors need too, and a manager watching the walls. More than a third of households there are one person, so studio and one-bedroom jobs are common; this is how SOS handles apartment moves.
The stock is old. Seven in ten units in the plan area went up before 1980, and the 1950s alone account for 18.2% of all units. In two- and three-story walk-ups of that era the stairs set the pace, so the crew pads railings and door frames, lays runners down the hallway, and takes bed frames, desks and dining tables apart before they reach the first landing.
Newer buildings fill the gaps. Metro's 2020 corridor study for its North Hollywood to Pasadena bus line listed about twenty apartment projects with active building permits in and around the district, from 15 units on Fair Avenue to 144 on Otsego Street, plus 297 units at 5101 Lankershim Boulevard. Buildings that size run moves through management: an elevator booking, a set move window, a certificate of insurance. The crew pads the elevator and covers the lobby floor; the booking itself is the resident's job, so lock it in before choosing the truck date.
Stairs are also the first question for piano movers in North Hollywood, because an upright in a 1950s walk-up comes down the same narrow flight as everything else. The North Hollywood station, where Metro's B Line from downtown meets the G Line, sits at Lankershim and Chandler. Metro's North Hollywood to Pasadena bus rapid transit line starts there and heads east on Chandler Boulevard, then down Vineland Avenue toward the 134. Metro says most of the line runs in dedicated bus lanes and that parking impacts vary by segment, so for an address on Chandler or Vineland the truck plan starts from the curb as it is now, not from an old street photo. A truck cannot load from a bus-only lane; where the curb is gone, the crew works from a side street or the building's driveway.
North Hollywood has no city hall of its own. As a district of Los Angeles, it gets temporary no-parking signs through LADOT, whose Special Traffic Control Division is the contact for requests. Burbank, next door to the east, is a separate city with its own parking rules, which matters for addresses near the line.
The NoHo Arts District needs its own plan. The city-run Lankershim Arts Center, a streamline moderne building from about 1939 at 5108 Lankershim Boulevard, lists its parking as street only, and the theaters, galleries and restaurants around it draw on the same curb. For an Arts District address, the crew's first choice is the building's garage or loading area, with the street as the fallback.

When you compare any North Hollywood moving company, ask where its trucks actually start. SOS crews leave the base at 5530 Jillson Street and take the I-5 north to the SR-134 west: about 20.3 miles, around 26 minutes without traffic. Weekday rush hours stretch both legs, and the 134 carries commuters between the Valley, Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena, so it fills up fast. A morning booking inside the 8AM – 6PM working day leaves the most room for a slow freeway, and same-day moves are possible when a crew is free.
North Hollywood is well inside 30 miles of the base, so the standard 3-hour minimum applies rather than the 4-hour one for farther addresses. The rates page adds that double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles.
Next door, the roads do the linking. Vineland Avenue runs south to Ventura Boulevard, so Studio City moves from North Hollywood can stay off the freeway entirely. Magnolia and Burbank boulevards cross straight into the next city, which makes moving to Burbank a surface-street job with Burbank's rules at the far end. For a Sherman Oaks move, the Ventura Freeway is the direct line west.
