Sure, our movers can bring packing materials and boxes if you need them. Make sure you mention that you need them to our operators in advance.
No, tips are not included, and it’s up to you how much to tip your movers. Tips are always appreciated but not required.
Your apartment moving cost depends on factors, such as the type and size of your property, the complexity of your move, the number of bedrooms, the volume of your items, zip code, etc. At SOS Moving, we offer flat and hourly rates. The hourly rate depends on the number of movers to be involved and the size of the moving truck. Flat rate is based on the volume of belongings you need to move, and it’s the best option for long-distance moves. To know your moving cost, please contact us or submit a form on our website to request your free quote.
You should schedule your move date as early as you can. If you’re moving locally, at least 1-2 weeks in advance, for long-distance moves, we recommend getting a quote at least 2-4 weeks before your move date.
You can choose any convenient day for your relocation, and yes, we can help you move on weekends and holidays.
A safe relocation is our goal, so we’ll provide you with a detailed list of items that are prohibited to transport. It includes perishables, hazardous materials, firearms, batteries, etc. We also don’t recommend packing your personal and irreplaceable items, including family heirlooms, family photos, jewelry, documents, etc. Carry them with you during the move.
We accept cash, all major debit and credit cards, and certified checks. We don’t accept personal checks. There will not apply any transaction fee on card transactions.
Yes, we’ll contact you prior to delivery. We’ll deliver your belongings within the given moving arrival window. In case the window is no longer possible, we’ll also contact you in advance and set another delivery time.
Hollywoodland was sold with a billboard. The Hollywood Sign Trust notes that the sign went up on Mount Lee in 1923 reading HOLLYWOODLAND, an advertisement for this real estate tract in upper Beachwood Canyon. The city's Hollywoodland Specific Plan still describes it as a custom-home, single-family subdivision with a "European Village" character. For movers in Hollywoodland, that usually means a house rather than a building: no elevator to reserve, but plenty of steps.
The same plan credits the tract's early deed restrictions and design review with a run of Mediterranean, English and French cottages and villas. The city's SurveyLA report dates the Hollywoodland Historic District to 1923–1939 and cites French Norman houses on Belden and Ledgewood Drives. Halls and stair turns in houses that old weren't planned around a modern sectional, so the crew pads every piece, covers floors and door frames, and takes apart beds and tables that won't make a turn.
Then there is the stone. Granite retaining walls and stairways went in around 1923 with the original subdivision. SurveyLA lists them, together with the tract's stone gates, among the area's designated historic resources, and the Specific Plan forbids attaching structures to them where they sit in the public right-of-way.
City survey teams also noted hillside houses in Hollywood that face the view rather than the street, so a carry can begin with a flight of steps beside old granite. Pads go between furniture and stone, and no dolly leans on a historic wall. Our packing crews can box china and framed art before the carry starts.
Among the Specific Plan's stated goals is better fire and emergency access on the tract's narrow, winding streets of substandard width. It even makes new projects on streets paved narrower than 28 feet add two extra off-street parking spaces. A moving truck on those streets still has to leave a lane for neighbors and fire engines, so the parking plan for a Hollywoodland move gets settled before the date, not at the curb.
In 2014 the City Council created temporary permit districts to shield the streets near the Hollywood Sign from hikers' and tourists' cars, and in 2020 it merged them into Preferential Parking District No. 320. Its blocks include stretches of Beachwood, Belden, Westshire, Hollyridge, Ledgewood, Rodgerton and Deronda Drives and of Mulholland Highway. The sign types authorized for the district include no parking 8 AM to 6 PM on weekends and holidays, two-hour limits, and no parking from 6 PM to 8 AM, with district permit holders exempt; your block's own sign decides.
Two more rules shape the day. LADOT's FAQ says commercial vehicles parked in a permit district for commercial work don't need a permit, which covers a working moving truck, not a friend's sedan.
The fire department's Red Flag program is stricter: once LAFD declares a Red Flag Day, with winds of 25 mph or more and humidity at 15% or lower, parking on posted streets in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zones is banned and cars get towed. LAFD's map of those streets marks stretches of Hollyridge, Westshire and Woodshire Drives. If a Red Flag Day lands on your date and your curb carries that sign, the truck needs a different legal spot.
Down the hill, the city's DASH Beachwood Canyon bus runs seven days a week between Hollywood/Vine and the canyon by way of Franklin Avenue and Beachwood Drive, so a truck on lower Beachwood loads clear of its stops. Moving services in Hollywoodland start at the curb, and before the date we ask you to check a few things:
Beachwood Drive is the canyon's main street. Its lower stretch, below the tract, runs through the part of the canyon where SurveyLA points to Moorish Revival houses tied to the Krotona Colony, an early Theosophical society, with examples on Temple Hill Drive. Higher up, the Hollywoodland Historic District addresses cited by the survey sit in the 2700 and 2800 blocks of North Beachwood. Farther up the hill, Deronda, Rockcliff and Rodgerton Drives and a stretch of Mulholland Highway also have permit-district blocks.
| Street or home type in Hollywoodland | What to plan for on moving day |
|---|---|
| Lower Beachwood Drive, below the tract | DASH Beachwood Canyon stops; load clear of the bus route |
| Beachwood Drive between Belden and Westshire Drives | Permit District No. 320 block; read the posted hours before the date |
| Hollyridge, Westshire and Woodshire Drives | Red Flag posted stretches; no parking there on a declared Red Flag Day |
| Deronda, Rockcliff and Rodgerton Drives, Mulholland Highway | Upper permit blocks; helpers need a permit or a driveway space |
| Houses above or below the street behind granite walls | Long carry on 1923 stone steps; pads on furniture, nothing braced on the walls |
| 1920s and 1930s Period Revival cottages | Tight doors and stair turns; disassembly and door-frame protection |
From the SOS base at 5530 Jillson Street the route is I-5 → US-101: about 14.4 miles, around 23 minutes without traffic, then north on Beachwood Drive from Franklin Avenue. The Hollywood Freeway through downtown and Hollywood crawls in both weekday rush periods. Crews work Monday through Sunday, 8AM – 6PM, so a Hollywoodland job runs smoother when the drive up and the final load stay out of the thick of the commute.
The minimum here is 3 hours; the 4-hour minimum applies only to addresses more than 30 miles from the base. Our local moving rates page spells out the rest, including the line that double drive time applies to moves over 10 miles. Monday-to-Thursday rates run lower than Friday-to-Sunday ones, and a non-holiday weekday also sidesteps the weekend-and-holiday permit hours on the blocks that post them.
On the city's planning maps Hollywoodland is part of Hollywood: its Specific Plan covers a slice of the Hollywood Community Plan area, and the DASH line drops down to Hollywood/Vine. A move between an apartment in the flats and a house up the canyon stays short; our Hollywood movers page covers the flat end.
SurveyLA names Los Feliz and Beachwood Canyon among the parts of the Hollywood Hills that saw heavy residential building in the 1920s, and it counts Los Feliz Heights next to Hollywoodland among the intact Period Revival districts. For the Los Feliz edge of Griffith Park, see our Los Feliz moving crews. Silver Lake sits along the same Hollywood Freeway run the trucks take from the base, which keeps a Silver Lake move to or from Hollywoodland on one freeway.
